Work Continues on the Y2-K SpitfireWe are back folks! The Y2-K Spitfire project took its first real break from construction in 7 years due to some insurance complications and some of our people needing a rest. All is well now and fabrication has started again on our Spitfire at the restoration hangar. We remained open for tours each Saturday and just this week we had over 120 local students from local schools tour the hangar in a search for details on Canadian history, the history of the Spitfire in RCAF service kept the students keenly interested. During our shutdown donations kept coming in and our bank account is in reasonable shape. This is due in part to a very nice donation from the Regional District, they approved a considerable cash donation to aid us with our project and it has been accepted with considerable enthusiasm, special thanks to the folks at the Regional District for this much needed donation.
We will also be featuring our heritage military vehicles from the Comox Air Force Museum, dozens of British Cars from the Vancouver Island British Car Club will be in attendance and the Local Air Cadets will be entertaining all our visitors with some great band music. A large collection of Spitfire aviation art will be on display and plenty of Spitfire souvenirs will be available at our donation table, make a donation…get a nice hat or T-Shirt. Our engineering team is working on the tail wheel and it will be installed on the Spitfire in time for the open house, as well we have recently received a large selection of elevator parts from a UK project for our elevator so this will speed things up for our Spitfire.
If you have any questions on the open house or how to make a donation to our Spitfire project contact the Y2K Project Manager. Thanks for your continued time and interest Pat Murphy “The Y2-K Spitfire will Fly Again" |
