Tail Section Nears Completion

Well, the month of April has come and gone and we are still looking for the warm weather to arrive here on Vancouver Island. Cadet visits have continued throughout the month and the elevator and rudder have finally been fitted onto the rear empennage. It is only a temporary fit until the trim tabs are manufactured and installed and then the elevator and rudder will be removed and put away until it is time to put the skin on. This will be to prevent any damage to the fabric, while work will commence on the seat assembly and cockpit area and visitors move about the hangar during weekend openings.

Elevator Empennage

Leonard A. KingThis past Saturday we had a visit from Leonard A. King, of Bristol Ontario. Leonard is seen inspecting our work and giving us a passing grade on our fabrication. Leonard is quite familiar with the Spitfire, having flown many of the various Marks, along with the Hurricane and P-40. Leonard did tours with 80 and 91 Squadron, RAF, during the North African campaign and beyond.

Normally, at this time of the year, we would be preparing for the Victoria Day open house but this year we have put the event on hold while we map the future of the project. We hope that in the very near future we will be able to announce a new partner in the project that will see us through to completion and the sounds of another Merlin will be heard overhead the airfield in Comox. There are exciting times ahead for the project and we hope that all our supporters are hanging in there. If all goes well you won’t be disappointed.
