Y2-K Spitfire now in its 8th Year of restoration.
It hardly seems like 8 years has passed since we started work on the Y2-K Spitfire restoration but it has. We continue to make progress weekly and even though it may seem that not much get done, keep in mind we are a small museum with a very large project. We are the only Spitfire restoration project in Canada and that is part of the problem, all contacts that we need to assist us with locating parts or technical information are in the UK or New Zealand and Australia. Over the years we have made many friends with parts to trade or to loan us for copying, without this help we would be lost, thanks to the many projects that have helped us over the years and who continue to support our noble efforts.

Work continues on the elevator and with luck it should be completed by month end and mounted on the horizontal stabilizer, it will not be covered for sometime but all fabrication should be completed.

We have some sad news to report this month, one of the Spitfire pilots that had attended our open house event in 2006 passed away recently. Former F/O Hugh F. Morse DFC passed away in Vancouver on January 5th 2008. He flew Kittyhawks with 442 Squadron in the Aleutian Campaign then Spitfires when the Squadron moved to England in early 1944, Hugh was known for his precision and effective low level attacks with his Spitfire, he enlisted in the RCAF in June of 1941. After the War Hugh became a dentist and was well respected for his work in that field. God Speed Hugh we will miss you.

The Czechmaster Resin Model company will soon be releasing a line of 1:72 scale Spitfire models featuring Canadian Spitfire’s, one of the first kits to be released will be a kit of the Y2-K Spitfire, we have been working with the designers for the past few months.
