January, Slow Start, Big Plans

January has resulted in a bit slower pace around the Spitfire hangar, weather was still causing some problems and many locals were getting over the Christmas holiday period. The restoration team has been sorting out rudder and elevator parts as well as fabricating new ribs and the many little connecting brackets that go into the process. A search has been conducted and some of these elevator parts will be coming from the UK, we have made a parts trade with a UK based Spitfire project, elevator parts for some spare fuselage frames. We recently sold one of our spare seats to a New Zealand project and a couple of spare armored glass frames to a project in South Africa, thanks to eBay. The team will be busy well into the spring completing the rudder and elevator for the Y2-K Spitfire

Even though our building pace has slowed during the month we have been busy working on events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our museum and, for the 7th annual open house event for the Spitfire project. The Comox Air Force Museum has several events in the planning stages set for the year. The 7th annual open house event will kick off a series of major events celebrating our rich aviation heritage.

Starting with next months update a new page will be added to our website that will list the names of the Spitfire pilots that will attend our event as well as a list of other attractions that will be part of our big event, it will be the biggest a aviation event on Vancouver Island to say the least so stay tuned.
